Our New Home

Todd and I purchased our new home today. We finally decided to buy the 2010 Cyclone. We are purchasing it in Michigan and will have it delivered to Utah around August 15th. I can't wait to move in. http://www.heartlandrvs.com/product.html?id=5&name=Cyclone&section=gallery&cid=68

Memorial Day Ride

One fork of the hiking trail by our house is an ATV trail. Mike and Bernie recently bought a Grizzly that was far too clean to be respectable, so they brought it over and we went for a ride. The ATV trail turned out to be a web of trails that don't seem to go anywhere at all. It didn't really matter that we didn't end up anywhere, we took advantage of a really great day and Mike got his rig dirty enough to be legit.

Hiking M.I.A.

The house we've rented for the summer is on M.I.A. street which is very appropriate. Near the house is a trailhead, so we've been hiking a few times a week. It turns out that our Pug Suki is even more out of shape than I am. We find ourselves trying to keep her going or keeping her from laying down on the trail.

Alaska Pipeline

We've driven by the Alaska Pipeline a hundred times and have never stopped. This time, we made it a point to pull over and see what the roadside attraction had to offer. It turns out that there is a history of the pipeline and also one of the "pigs" that is sent down the pipe to clean it.

Eldorado Gold Mine

We took a drive to Fox to visit the Eldorado Gold Mine. It is a a fun tourist trap where you are taken back to the golden days of Fairbanks. We boarded a train that took us back in time and showed us how the miners drift mined and placer mined. We were given a demonstration of how a gold sluce worked with water to get the "pay dirt". Later, we were given our own poke and told to pan for gold. It was surprisingly fun and I think some of us were stricken with gold fever. We were able to combine our flecks and have enough to make a necklace for Mom. After, we stopped at the Silver Gultch Brewery for dinner and a beer.

Graduation May 19, 2009

McKenzie graduated on May 19th. I can't believe our baby has graduated from high school. She will attend UAF in the fall and has already enrolled in classes.

Chatinika Lodge & Gold Dredge #3

We took a drive up to Chatinika 28 miles north of Fairbanks on the other side of the Cleary Summit. At least 70 million dollars in gold was taken out between 1926 and 1957. We ate breakfast at the lodge where the owner gave us a lesson in Fairbanks history and showed us a movie about the dredge.

Tourists in Fairbanks

My folks came to Fairbanks for McKenzie's graduation on the 12th. Since we are leaving Alaska at the end of the summer, we decided it would be a good time to start seeing the sights that we have never gotten around to before. Since Fairbanks is a tourist town, there was plenty to do. It seems like we spent 10 full days eating our way through Fairbanks.

Fairbanks Grizzlies Football

Wow!

Who knew arena football could be so much fun? This was our first game. The game was alot of fun. Even more exciting was the fact that Flynn and Nancy won a couple or players jersey 's. The home team won, so overall a great night.
